Pre-summer AC checklist: 7 things to do before the heat hits
A ten-minute routine that keeps your split AC cooling hard, your bill lower, and your technician visit short.

The first 40°C week is the worst time to discover your AC is blowing warm air — every technician in the city is already booked. A little preparation in early spring saves money and a lot of sweat.
- Clean the indoor filters. Slide them out, rinse with lukewarm water, and let them dry fully in the shade.
- Check the remote and batteries before you need them at 2 a.m.
- Clear the outdoor unit. Remove leaves, plastic bags and anything blocking airflow around it.
- Look at the drain pipe. It should run freely — water dripping inside means a blockage.
- Listen on first start. Rattling or grinding is a sign to call a technician early.
- Check the stabiliser and make sure the wiring to it is not loose or scorched.
- Book a gas-pressure check if cooling felt weak last summer.
If the unit cools weakly after a filter clean, trips the breaker, leaks water indoors, or ices up on the pipes, it is time for a proper service. Booking in March or April usually means a same-week visit; in June it can mean waiting.
